During the July 28th evening, 12th National Student Sports Meet Opening Ceremony began in Shanghai Eastern Gym. China's Politburo Standing Committee Member and Vice Premier of the State Council Liu Yan-dong(劉延東) announced the opening of the ceremony.
The purpose of the sport meet this year is “Teamwork, Perseverance, Culture, Nurture”, hoping to promote positive exercising attitude and healthy growth. Emphasizing health, the sport meet aimed to encourage the development of sports and the expression of the passion of youth. After the opening ceremony and flag ceremony, Minister of Education, Yuan Gui-Ren(袁貴人), and the Mayor of Shanghai Yang Xiong(楊雄) both gave a speech.
The opening ceremony is divided into four plates, “Shanghai Charm”, “School Excitements”, “Sunshine Youth” and “China Beauty”. Through the interaction between the performers on and off stage, the sports meet aimed to express the vitality, progressive, and healthy spirit that constructed the China dream. The sports meet least for six days, from July 28th to August 2nd. East Day News will continue reporting on the event.
