August 2013, an announcement campaign shocked Taiwan’s classical music education scene. The crossover music was completed with MIDI, which was essential for songwriting, composing, and post-production. MIDI deepens music production with the art of sound effects, which shed a new light for the struggling Taiwan classical music education. “Moment of Glory” consists of all the songs in the second half of the announcement campaign. The release of the album gained immediate recognition: it was the best-seller in Gmusic classical music chart for 7 weeks consecutively.
May 2014, ZONG, once again, dazzled his audience with “Enchanting Wings魔翼”from “Moment of Glory” in “Taipei Shanghai Cultural Exchange”. On that day, he was invited by the minister of education of Shanghai to perform in 12th National Student Sports Meet Opening Ceremony in July. ZONG’s song was recorded with renowned orchestra in advance. Also, he was the leading pianist in the first part of the opening ceremony. He led 34 pianists chosen from all over China to perform the song he wrote. Within a year, ZONG received countless “music requests”. Regardless whether it is soundtrack, crossover or pop music, ZONG’s pieces are approved by China and Taiwan. He is now the busiest music freshman compare to his peers.
FTV production team was deeply touched by “Moment of Glory”; thus, offered ZONG to customize the opening, ending song and soundtrack for “The Fighter” with enthusiasm. This project in enticed the birth of “Moment of Glory II: The First Original Score”. Senior members of TTV and USTV have always admired ZONG’s music. As a result, they offered ZONG to be their long-term soundtrack producer for one of the most representative documentary show “The Beauty of Taiwan(台灣真善美)”. ZONG shall join the narratives of the lives in Taiwan. In addition, famous make-up artist, Zhang Jing-kai, sincerely offered ZONG to provide the music for his fashion products and fashion shows. The album is full of colors, and proves ZONG’s ability to adapt to different genre of music, not to mention the skill to compose and produce an album.
The songs in “Moment of Glory II: The First Original Score” are linked by the imagination of a story, which leads the audience into a fictional reality. Although each song is the soundtrack for different shows or products, ZONG put an effort in the order of songs, allowing the audience to follow comfortably with the flow. The album starts with the aggressive momentum of “The Great Renaissance”, while “The Marvelous Museum” continues the joy of art. The next two songs are the opening and ending song of “The Fighters”: “Fighting Spirit” and “Era of Glory II”, which are both passionate and belligerent. On the other hand, the soundtracks of “The Fighter”, “Mysterious Sound-Metamorphosis” and “Mermaid”, are elegant and lingers in our memory. About the Songs
1). The Great Renaissance～（TTV. USTV. Soundtrack of “The Beauty of Taiwan台灣真善美”nominated for Golden Bell Award）
The inspiration of this song comes from Renaissance. As if we are back in 14th and 15th century, where the royals and priests were hidden in their cloaks, wandering in the lost paths of the woods. The song is curious and enigmatical.
ZONG prefers to create the effect of syncopation with string music, engendering a great momentum. The first half of the song is heavy in orchestral music. Pulling string instruments to the foreground and pushing wind instruments to the background, ZONG enhances the mystic aura. Special sound effects enter the scene from the left and right spontaneously, as if the cloaks flutter while the wind blows. Then the ancient bell rings into the imagery scene. With the voice of the choir, the song reaches the serenity of Gregorian chant. Yet, the song never loses the touch of the modern.
2). The Marvelous Museum ～（TTV. USTV. Soundtrack of “The Beauty of Taiwan台灣真善美”nominated for Golden Bell Award)）
Apollo comes into our eyes with his chariot. This is a song that paints the picture of Greek mythology, precious sculptures, exquisite paintings and refined instrument… it opens your eyes to a journey in a museum.
ZONG attempts to create the atmosphere of happiness and liveliness by using exciting music. On the surface, the theme is western classic; but underneath, this song is inspired by the spirit and personality of Taiwan. ZONG aims to connect the threads of human relationships.In terms of the style, first 8 measures are played out by string instruments in unison.The brass instruments formulate a steady base, which incarnates into the marvelous castle far away. Then, in order to conceive affinity, the gentle woodwind instruments act as the choir. The entire song encompasses exuberant surround sound effects.
3). Fighting Spirit ～（FTV. Opening song and soundtrack of The Fighter燃燒的鬥魂)）
Accepting the offer of a senior producer in FTV, ZONG uses his first crossover album “Moment of Glory” as the blueprint to forge a whole new album just for soundtracks. Within 38 seconds, the song narrates the main character’s story. While the pace of the song commensurate with the scenes, the solemn drums beat the steadfast fighting spirits. The song has a strong orchestra opening. Then the high pitch sound of flute floats in like a ship in the storm. The wind instruments are like the waves that push forward the ship. In the end, the lonely ship shall sail for its own brave new world!
4). Era of Glory II ～（FTV. Ending song and soundtrack of The Fighter燃燒的鬥魂)）
This song is originally included in ZONG’s first album “Moment of Glory”. After accepting the offer of FTV “The Fighter”, ZONG adapted this song into a song for its ending song.
The original version started with a harpsichord. This new version, the song opens up with the conversation between a harpsichord and a piano, presenting a heart-warming image. Later, the abundance of music instrument heats up the atmosphere, which resemble the praise and hail of the fighting spirits. It is as if the music give live a new leaf of hope, inspiring community and bravery. This is the being of our moment ofglory!
5). Mysterious Sound-Metamorphosis ～（FTV. Soundtrack of The Fighter 燃燒的鬥魂. Yu Xiang Album.）
Mysterious Sound-Metamorphosis expresses the deepest anxiety. Low-pitched, the sound vibrates with the pain and sorrow under desperation. At the end of the song, high-pitch string instruments shed light to the despaired individual, symbolizing incarnation and the ups-and-downs of life.
Mainly minor scale, the harmony is mellow. Volume range is full of conflicts, as if a peaceful dirge. The string instruments play long bows. Playing long bows is one of the most basic techniques; however, when every part is play out in long bows, it can express the emotional tension the most once the pressure and speed is well controlled. In terms of art, the simplest is usually the hardest challenge; but at the same time, the most effective.
6). Mermaid ～（FTV. Soundtrack of The Fighter 燃燒的鬥魂. Yu Xiang Album.）
magine an injured mermaid struggling in the sea, and the journey back to health. This is a song dedicated to the legendary commercial artists, Yu Xiang. ZONG depicts the greatest fear of the main female character, her illness. The illness becomes the turning point of her life. She goes on a course to find the meaning of life. By sharing her experience, she lives her life to the fullest.
The song starts with high-pitched piano, in order to form a sacred aura. As the string instruments take over the piano, woodwind and brass instruments come into the play, symbolizing a strong and warm spirituality. Regardless whether being alone or facing betrayal, the kindness of others remains the spring of life. The raising notes engenders hope, which symbolizes how the mermaid grasps the silver lining, and swims to the surface. The mermaid’s spirit is also transformed, returning to humanity; thus, the mermaid, once again, gains energy and hope.
7). Mermaid(Piano) ～（FTV. Soundtrack of The Fighter 燃燒的鬥魂. Yu Xiang Album.）
This is the short piano version of “Mermaid”. It fully shows the intangible spirituality of the music.
8). KAI DELUXE ～（Well-known Asian fashion artists, Zhang Jing-kai. Soundtrack for fashion commercial.）
This is ZONG’s first time composing a song for fashion industry. The high fashion trends are all concentrated into 38 seconds, including fashion show, fashion party, and haute couture.
Simple but fierce, this song is different from any dance music. It is especially tailored Zhang Jing-kai’s fashion. This song starts with heavy beats of electronic drums and electronic music. The core of the music represents the spirit of Zhang. This song is completed by MIDI. Visualizing the make-up, colors, costumes, and accessories, the song makes the fashions products shine.
9). THE FASHION DEVIL ～（Soundtrack of Asian TOP MODEL runway show）
Different from KAI DELUXE, The Fashion Devil focuses on the beats due to the fact that it is meant to keep up with the models on catwalk in Asian TOP MODEL.
In order to show the variety of the music, ZONG picks housing style as the base, and spices it up. The tone blasts in the beginning; then, evaporates, and slowly back to reality. The second part, the rhythm switches to dubstep heavy beat. The drums and the electrifying atmosphere echo the models’ foot step, proudly displaying all the fashion she encompasses.
